New York Medical Marijuana Doctors Online: Telehealth Evaluations & Renewals

New York evaluations on MMJ.com are conducted by Dr. Rajashree Kantha, MD, licensed by the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions. Under Cannabis Law section 30, a practitioner who is licensed to prescribe controlled substances, qualified to treat your condition, and has completed the training the Cannabis Control Board sets in regulation may certify you.

A 15-minute audio-visual video visit. New York uses an open standard: the practitioner may certify any condition they believe cannabis can help treat. Dr. Kantha reviews your history and current treatment, and if appropriate files the certification electronically through the New York State Health Commerce System to the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM).

Two years from the date the practitioner signs it, under Cannabis Law section 30(6) as amended by Senate Bill S3294-A (signed November 21, 2025, effective February 19, 2026), unless the practitioner sets an earlier date. Practitioners may also state that a terminally ill patient's certification does not expire.

No card and no fee. OCM's current guidance is that patients present their certification, on paper or on a phone, together with a government-issued photo ID at any licensed New York medical dispensary. There is no separate patient registration step and OCM charges nothing.

Proof of New York residency (a New York driver's license, non-driver ID, or a lease or utility bill with a New York address), a list of current medications, and any records describing your condition. Records are useful to the practitioner but OCM does not require a specific document for certification.
